"Past snowboard cross winners Drew Neilson and Maelle Ricker, plus Olympic bronze medallist Dominique Maltais are among the Canadians will who compete at this year's Winter X Games, which begin Thursday in Aspen, Colo.

Blair Morgan of Prince Albert, Sask., a seven-time winner in past X Games, will lead a strong Canadian contingent in the snowmobile snocross, which also includes Ryan Simons, of Camrose, Alta., who was second last year.

A record US$1-million purse will be up for grabs at this year's event, which will draw over 250 of the world's best skiers, snowboarders and snowmobilers. The competition ends Sunday.

Ricker of Whistler, B.C., is a four-time snowboard cross winner at Winter X and also will compete in the halfpipe. Neilson, of North Vancouver, B.C., won the Winter X snowboard cross in 2000 and last year took the overall World Cup title.

Maltais, of Petite-Riviere-St-Francois, Que., took the bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy, where snowboard cross made its Olympic debut. This will be her first Winter X Games, but at five-foot-11 and 160 pounds she is one of the most imposing figures in the field."

Anderson records season-best sixth in World Cup snowboard event
Topic - Announcement Posted on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 by Send E-Mail to Motion    Print this article    E-Mail this article to a friend
"Spain - Jasey-Jay Anderson of Mont-Tremblant, Que., registered a season-best sixth-place finish Sunday in a men's parallel slalom race at a World Cup snowboard competition.

Rok Flander of Slovakia finished first while Austrians Benjamin Karl and Andreas Prommeger told the silver and bronze medals.

Anderson said the icy conditions on the La Molina course made racing difficult.

"It wasn't a pleasant race," said Anderson. "In fact it was awful.

"I knew it would be tough, but not this tough."

Still Anderson was pleased to post a season-best result.

"It was my best result this season, I have to accept it and be happy with it," said Anderson, 32. ''I was apprehensive about this competition because there's a lot of skidding due to the icy conditions."
